ROOTS OF COURAGE
SEMANGAT RERUMPUT

Dibumi yang terhampar luas, aku kelihatan begitu kerdil
Tubuhku tak setegap pohon jati yang berakar tunjang
tak sekukuh da semegah gunung nan tinggi
Tak seperti mekar melati yang harum mewangi

Rejaman angin ribut tak mampu ku tepis
Terjahan hujan dan taufan yang mencurah tak dapat ku tangkis
Cengkam terik mentari terus saja membengis

Namun
Perjuangan hidupku tak pernah goyah

Aku percaya, sesungguhnya
Angin ribut yang membuas
Hujan taufan yang mengganas
Terikan mentari yang mencengkam
Tak betah merobek semangatku
Tak terdaya menghambat pertumbuhanku
Tak bisa menghalangku membiak melata ke serata penjuru

Aku yakin, sebenarnya
Buas angin taufan sekadar menyapu debuan dibahuku
Ganas hujan ribut umpama menabur baja khasiat kepadaku
Terik cengkam mentari hanyalah bagaikana sajian hidangan kehidupanku

Aku sedar, bahawasanya
Ribut taufan sebenarnya menambah tumbuh kental jiwaku
Terikan mentari bagaikan memberi nafas baru
Dan kini semangat rerumput menjadi pegangan hidupku

In this vast open field
I seem very minute

I have not the strength of a mighty oak tree
Nor the greatness and pride of the mountains
Nor the beauty and splendour of the pure white lily

I can't avoid the strong guts of wind
I am defenseless against the forceful rain
Am helpless under the merciless heat of the sun

However
My heart never wavers in the face of difficulties

I believe

even if the wind is unfeeling
If the rain is savage and icy cold
The heat of the sun is unyielding
It will never uproot my courage
Will not retard my growth
Nor hinder me from reaching far and wide

I am confident
The mighty wind will only puff away the dust on my shoulders
The unrelenting rain is just sowing fertilizers for my growth
The ruthless sun is just proiding me with nutrients

I realize
The ferocious wind is strengthening me
The unsympathetic sun is giving me new life
And now I have the roots of courage in me
